JOHOR BARU: The second edition of the StarProperty.my Awards 2018: Jewels of Johor was a picture of glitz and glamour, in addition to being a source of inspiration and motivation behind the state’s developments.
More than 400 guests attended the event held at Thistle Hotel, with the ladies resplendent in their evening gowns while the gentlemen radiant in their well-tailored dark suits.
Gracing the event were Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.

Among the VIP guests were Johor Housing and Rural Development Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad; Islamic Religious Affairs and Education Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan; Consumerism, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Dr S. Ramakrishnan; Women Development and Toursim Committee chairman Liow Cai Tung and state secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.
Star Media Group was represented by chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and Johor bureau chief Nelson Benjamin.
Wong said the StarProperty.my Awards was introduced to recognise the best-in-class developments in Malaysia, and the dedicated developers behind them.

“Johor’s growth story has caught the attention of many, both locally and regionally, in recent years.
“Consistent investments in public facilities and infrastructure, among others, have had catalytic impacts in other areas, including the property sector,’’ he said.
Wong said Johor, home to Iskandar Malaysia, was set to become an economic development powerhouse thanks to the state government’s strategic planning.

The StarProperty.my Awards 2018: Jewels of Johor presented 13 award categories with five new categories introduced this year.
Two Special Mention Awards were presented to Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd (CGPV), the master developer of Forest City.
CGPV received The Most Iconic International City Planner and Sustainable Smart City Developer and the Biggest and Most Advanced Industrialised Building System Development in Malaysia by an International Developer awards.

The judging panel consisted of captains of the country’s real estate industry and leaders in various disciplines, such as architecture, real estate investment trusts, landscape architecture, sustainable building, real estate-related service, as well as business and real estate journalism.
One of the award recipients, Sunway Group bagged four awards – the Best Comprehensive Township (Above 500 acres) for Sunway Iskandar project, The Best Quality and Finishing Development for Sunway Lenang Heights and the Best Corporate Social Responsibility. It also walked away with The Best Choice Award.

“The awards are for all our staff in Johor for their dedication and efforts, without which, we would not be here tonight,’’ he said.

Gerard said Iskandar Malaysia that was progressing on track would continue to drive demand for property in the country’s first economic corridor in years to come.
Mah Sing Group Bhd’s southern region senior general manager (Development) Benjamin Ong said winning The Best Affordable Home Category for The Eden @ Meridin East project was testimony that the company understood buyers’ need in Johor.
He said take up rate was overwhelming with all units in phase one and 90% under the phase two sold, adding that new products would be launched next month.
“In the offing are 236 units of Hazel double-storey 20ft by 70ft link houses with a built-up area of 1,900 sq ft and with indicative pricing of RM500,000 each unit,’’ said Ong.

He said there was a good mix of buyers for The Eden @ Meridin East, comprising first-time buyers, upgraders and Malaysians working in Singapore.
He noted that the company remained optimistic on the property outlook in Iskandar Malaysia, adding that it was in the midst of looking for new site for a new township project in the near future.
UEM Sunrise Bhd, the master developer of Iskandar Puteri (formerly known as Nusajaya), walked away with The Best Choice Award.
Managing director and chief executive officer Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib said the company had a strong presence in Iskandar Malaysian since the inception of the country’s first economic growth corridor on Nov 4, 2006.
“We are here to stay to continue delivering quality homes to our buyers,’’ said Anwar Syahrin, adding that the company was not only selling houses but also a lifestyle.
He said the company’s housing projects in Iskandar Malaysia catered mostly to locals and Malaysians working in Singapore, as well as Singaporeans who were the main group of foreign buyers for its residential properties.

He said news reports on the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit Link System to be launched in the third-quarter of next year would improve connectivity between Johor Baru and Singapore, therefore would boost the property sector in south Johor.
Front Concept Sdn Bhd, the developer of Senibong Cove, won the Best Waterfront Development award.
Project manager Quay Chew Keong said the company was committed to making Senibong Cove a unique waterfront development project with a conducive living environment for home owners.
“We want residents to enjoy the serenity of their surroundings with a modern lifestyle, and at the same time are able to appreciate flora and fauna within the development,’’ he said.
Quay said despite a slow property market in the last two years, its landed residential properties were sold out while 665 units of its WaterEdge Apartments only had remaining 10% stock.
He commended StarProperty for organising the event here for second year running to showcase developers, especially those in Johor.
Other developers honoured at the awards night included United Malayan Land Bhd, Distinctive Resources Sdn Bhd, Horizon Hills Development Sdn Bhd, Country View Bhd, AME Development Sdn Bhd, PH World and Johor Land Bhd.
