State Consumerism, Domestic Trade and Tourism executive council chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said that discussions for the pilot project were ongoing between the state government, Johor State Investment Centre (JSIC) and various local authorities.
The pilot project, he said, involves setting up modern and well-equipped industrial parks to cater to the growing pool of international investors and multinational companies branching out to Malaysia, specifically Iskandar Malaysia.
“We are looking at popular areas such as Pasir Gudang and Kulai as well as a few other places but we are still in discussion.
“The exact locations, mechanism and plans will be announced by early next year,” he said after a working visit to i-Park@Indahpura here.
He said the industrial parks would be environmentally-friendly and would have good security facilities, landscaping and well-maintained workers’ hostels.
He said such facilities were popular among companies in the pharmaceutical, oil and gas, engineering and medical device sectors.
Tee said there was a need for industrial parks that are more systematic and well-planned to fulfil the high standards and expectations of foreign investors.
He added that currently, 84% of the occupancy in i-Park which began operations three years ago comprised foreign companies from Singapore, Germany, Japan, the United States and Switzerland.
“The industrial park is modern and well-planned, which is something that we should emulate for our pilot project,” he added.
Tee added the state government would do all it can to keep foreign investors in Johor happy, adding its strategic location made it ideal for multinational companies.
